Booking & How the Service Works

The essentials: who provides the service, what you’re reserving, and how confirmation normally works.

Who am I booking with?
Elegance Funeral Cars is a booking platform. The transport itself is provided by the vehicle owner (supplier) you book. Your booking is confirmed under our terms, and the service is delivered by the vehicle owner.
Do I need a funeral director to hire funeral cars?
No. Some families book funeral cars directly; others have a funeral director coordinate everything. Both are normal — the key is that timings and locations are confirmed clearly.
What details do you need to provide for an accurate quote?
Usually:
  • Date of the funeral
  • Pick-up location (home / funeral director / chapel of rest)
  • Service location and time
  • Committal location (crematorium or cemetery)
  • How many vehicles you need (hearse only / hearse + family cars)
  • Any special requests (stops, accessibility, flowers)
How is my booking confirmed?
Once your reservation/booking is accepted, you’ll receive confirmation with the agreed details. The vehicle owner should also confirm final timings nearer the day, especially if there are multiple locations or any special requests.
Can I book multiple family cars?
Yes — it’s common to book one family car, and perfectly normal to book two or more for larger families. We’ll help you match seating needs to the right vehicles.

Vehicles & The Day Itself

What each vehicle does, who travels where, and what’s normal on the day.

What’s the difference between a hearse and a family car?
The hearse is the vehicle designed to carry the coffin. Family cars are for close relatives to travel together in comfort and privacy, usually following behind the hearse.
How many funeral cars do we need?
There’s no fixed rule. Some families choose a hearse only; many book a hearse plus one family car; larger families often choose two or more family cars. We’ll guide you based on who needs to travel together.
How many people fit in a family car?
It depends on the vehicle. Many funeral limousines seat around 6–7 passengers, while executive saloons seat fewer. Your quote/vehicle details should make seating clear — and we can help you avoid the awkward “we thought it seated more” moment.
Can we choose a traditional or modern vehicle style?
Yes. Some families prefer traditional black vehicles; others choose modern or alternative styles. Availability can vary by area and notice — so earlier booking gives you more choice.
Can funeral cars carry flowers?
Often, yes — typically flowers can be placed on or alongside the coffin and may be carried as part of the hearse arrangement. If you have large tributes or specific requests, mention it early so the vehicle owner can confirm what’s practical.

Timings, Routes & Etiquette

How cortege travel works, what’s flexible, and what’s best agreed in advance.

Do funeral cars always travel together as a cortege?
Usually, yes — the hearse leads and family cars follow. Some families prefer to travel separately and meet at the venue. Both are completely acceptable.
Can the funeral cars make a stop along the way?
Often, yes. Passing a meaningful location (home, workplace, favourite place) is common. The important part is agreeing it in advance so timings and access can be confirmed.
How early do funeral cars usually arrive?
Typically, vehicles arrive with enough time to be calm and unhurried — allowing for boarding, greeting, and any small adjustments. Exact arrival time depends on your itinerary and the service time.
What happens if traffic causes delays?
Drivers plan routes with local conditions in mind. If unexpected traffic occurs, the priority is to keep the family informed and arrive safely and respectfully. Where possible, sensible buffers are built into the plan.
Is there etiquette for other road users when a cortege passes?
Many road users choose to show respect by giving space or pausing where safe. There’s no requirement for you to manage this — your driver focuses on safe, considerate progress.

Pricing & Payments

What affects price, what’s included, and how payments are handled.

How much does funeral car hire cost in the UK?
Pricing depends on the number of vehicles, distance, total hire time, and vehicle type. Your quote should clearly confirm what’s included before you book.
What is usually included in the quoted price?
Typically: the vehicle(s), a professional driver, agreed route, and agreed hire time. If your itinerary involves extra stops, long waits, or extended mileage, it should be agreed and priced transparently.
Do you take a deposit or reservation fee?
Many bookings are secured with an upfront payment, with the remaining balance due later. The exact payment schedule is shown clearly at the point of booking and in your confirmation.
Which payment methods are accepted?
Payment methods can vary by vehicle owner. Where applicable, payment options will be explained clearly during the booking process.
Will I get a receipt or confirmation?
Yes — you should receive written confirmation of your booking details and payments, plus a clear outline of what has been agreed.

Changes, Amendments & Cancellations

Real-life happens. This section explains what’s usually possible and what needs agreeing early.

Can I change the pick-up time or location after booking?
Often, yes — as long as the vehicle owner can accommodate the change. If changes affect distance, timings, or duration, there may be an updated quote to reflect the revised itinerary.
What if the service time changes?
Let us know as early as possible. Minor adjustments are often manageable; significant changes may require re-confirmation of availability.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancellation terms depend on notice given and are set out in our Terms & Conditions. Where a refund applies, it is processed in line with those terms.
How long do refunds take?
Once processed, refunds typically take a few working days to appear, depending on your bank/card provider.

Problems, Contingency & Complaints

This is where professionalism shows: calm handling, clear responsibility, and sensible solutions.

What happens if a funeral car breaks down?
Vehicle owners are expected to have contingency plans in place. Depending on circumstances, this may include a replacement vehicle where feasible, or an alternative solution agreed quickly and discreetly — always with respect for the family.
What if the vehicle doesn’t arrive on time?
If anything causes a delay, you should be informed promptly with the plan to resolve it. We support communication and resolution in line with the booking terms.
Who is responsible if something goes wrong?
The vehicle owner providing the service is responsible for delivery of the transport as agreed. Elegance Funeral Cars supports the booking process and helps coordinate resolution where required.
How do I raise a complaint?
Contact us with your booking reference and a brief summary of what happened. If possible, include timings and any relevant messages. We’ll review it in line with the Terms & Conditions and coordinate next steps with the vehicle owner.
What if extreme weather or unexpected events affect travel?
In rare cases, circumstances outside anyone’s control can affect travel. The priority is always safety and respectful communication. Where possible, alternatives or adjustments will be discussed quickly.

Practical Questions Families Often Ask

The “small stuff” that matters a lot on the day.

Can we request accessibility support?
Yes — please mention mobility needs early (steps, walking distance, wheelchair users, extra time). This helps ensure the right vehicle type and a realistic plan.
Can children travel in the family car?
Usually yes, but child seat requirements vary. If a child seat is needed, tell us in advance so suitable arrangements can be confirmed.
Is food, alcohol or smoking allowed in the vehicles?
As a general rule: no smoking. Food/drink policies can vary by vehicle owner and vehicle type. If you’re unsure, ask — it’s easier than cleaning a suit and a seat on the same day.
Can the vehicles wait while we greet people or take photos?
Often yes — but waiting time should be agreed in the itinerary. If the plan includes extended waiting, it may affect pricing and availability for other work that day.
